A Moment on PLOSS...
The word PLOSS is a term that I have fashioned that is short for
Pregnancy-Loss. It was in the attempt to make easy document files, organizing
articles, and simply creating a word that I can use universally for the very
heartbreaking event of losing a pregnancy or baby. Since perinatal and neonatal
loss is quite a mouthful and simply too formal for my taste, I think PLOSS is a
synonym that can be used interchangeably. My hope is that the term PLOSS becomes
as recognizable as OCD or SIDS one day.
I hope that this website has allowed you to see the possibilities in your emotional health. I found that when
I suffered my loss that there were 3 things I wanted in a therapist:
1) I wanted a woman, let me rephrase that- a woman who understands pregnancy and it's challenges
2) I wanted someone who understood personally the experience of PLOSS, don't feel bad almost everyone does
3) Someone affordable and willing to work with me on my fee
These were 3 things that I did not and could not find in a therapist. I assure you that I am 1&2 and will do my best to provide help at a reasonable price.
Not only is PLOSS a sensitive time where emotions are on
edge but there is a sense of "what do I do now." Personal counseling is
available for those who need to talk about their experience without the societal
taboo that PLOSS is a “natural” thing that shouldn't be talked about. In my eyes
it is a subject that all who suffers PLOSS should talk about when ready.
Especially men are encouraged to be strong, emotionless, and continue to
maintain normalcy for the woman's sake. This is a stigma set by our society and
has given the incorrect perception that PLOSS is a woman's issue..if that.
Allowing PLOSS to be a silent sorrow suffered in the solitude of our homes can
easily lead to unresolved feelings, unhealthful coping mechanisms, maladaptive
behavior, and most importantly mental health issues.
If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact me, even to have a free consultation.
My ears are always open.
